Cider Press Jones

For many years Clinton Porter Jones operated a cider press on his farm in Fairfax, Virginia. This earned him the nickname Cider Press Jones. The Fairfax County Park Authority has agreed to restore the old cider press as well as the 1930s John Deere tractor that powered it. They will be placing the cider press at Frying Pan Park as part of the Kidwell Farm which depicts a farm as it would have been in the 1920s and 1930s.

In October of 1952 the Washington Star did a story on CP Jones and his cider press. The images below are scanned from the original prints of photos taken by Star photographer Elwood Baker. Click on any of the images for larger versions (240K-320K).
