About Mike
Currently, I am working at St. Edward’s University as an Instructional Technologist where I assist students, faculty and staff with a variety of digital media projects including video and audio production as well as photography.
Previously, I was the Technology Facilitator at Sunset Valley Elementary where I taught kids how to use technology. I also provided technical support for the teachers and maintained the computer lab.
Before that, I was a part of the Learning Technology Center at the University of Texas for over ten years, guiding students and faculty in integrating technology into their instruction as a learning tool. In 2002 I helped develop and acted as lead training specialist for UT’s Laptop Initiative for Future Educators, which required all students seeking teacher certification to integrate computer applications using their personal laptop into their coursework.
During my tenure at UT and also for many years as a freelancer I have been involved with audio, video & multimedia production, photography and web site design.
Despite all of my technology career, my real joy is music. I have a bachelors degree in music from East Carolina University and a masters in music from the University of Texas at Austin. I currently play tuba with the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble, Austin Brass Band and St. Edward’s University Orchestra. I also play in a traditional New Orleans jazz group called The Numbers and sometimes play in the Austin Polka Band.
